Description

The European Network on Debt and Development works for social justice through research and advocacy on development finance policies. Its current focus areas are improving the effectiveness of North-South public and private flows for development, reducing South-North financial flows and enhancing domestic resource mobilisation. These issues encompass work on defining development effectiveness, resolving the debt crisis and combating illicit capital flows. The network secretariat in Brussels assists its 50 member organisations across Europe, and developing country allies, to understand and influence current policy debates. The purpose of this role is to work in the Eurodad team to help take forward its work on development finance issues. This includes work on development effectiveness with a particular focus on aid, North-South public and private flows and on the International Financial Institutions. The role involves advocacy, research, monitoring policy developments, networking and information sharing and facilitation.

Eligibility

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is able to take the initiative to inform and mobilise members and persuade decision makers to introduce changes. They will also be able to carry out research and apply extensive policy analysis to their work. They will be familiar with current debates on development finance policies and have experience of working with diverse civil society organisations. They will need to speak and write English to a very high standard, working knowledge of one other European language is highly desirable.

1) Essential experience:
Educated to at least degree level in political sciences, economics, development studies or related subject.
At least three years? work experience in:

  • Advocacy and lobbying on development finance policy issues
  • Research and analysis, writing briefings or reports
  • Public speaking and making presentations on complex policy issues to civil society organisations and decision-makers
  • Facilitation of broad and diverse group processes

2) Desirable experience:

  • Published research on international development issues
  • Experience of writing articles for newsletters and websites
  • Previous experience in the NGO sector
  • Experience campaigning on international development issues
  • Involvement in an international network
  • Working in a developing country and/or working with organisations from the Global South

3) Aptitudes, skills and knowledge:
Required

  • Knowledge of current development finance debates
  • Ability to conceive innovative and effective advocacy and communications strategies
  • Ability to think analytically and plan strategically
  • Demonstrated skills of coalition-building and coordination of international civil society networks
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills
  • Strong organisational skills, including in event organising
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
